Paste a messy module and say what hurts, and get a plan to improve it in small, safe steps. It names what is wrong with the code (what makes it hard to change, not just ugly), suggests tests to write first so you know you have not broken anything, then orders the changes so the code works after every step. Each step has its size, its risk and how to undo it. It also tells you what to leave alone and when a rewrite would be the better choice.
